The Santa Muerte or Holy Death is also known as Santisima Muerte and she is the beloved Saint of death who’s origins date to Pre Hispanic Mexico. Her feast day, celebrated on November 1st, is known as Dia de los Muertos and is widely observed in Mexico. La Huesuda, The Bony One, or La Nia, The Young Girl as she is known to some took her current form around 1965. She is represented as a grim reaper image and may carry an owl which is one of the animals associated with the Lord of the Dead . Some statues depict the Santa Muerte as a reaper with the scythe holding scales and a crystal ball, while in others she carries the scales and a crystal ball only. Also, she is sometimes depicted holding a globe of the world and an hour glass.
the Santa Muerte is used in many different types of Spiritual works. To name just a few she is often invoked for prosperity, business success, protection, justice, healing and of course – Love.
Setting up the Altar for Spiritual Works
1. Pick the Statue and candle – A Statue of the Santisima Muerte can be in various colors depending on the type of petition you have. Here are some of the most popular Ones:
Red Santa Muerte statue – This statue is mainly used in rituals concerning romantic love and Sexual desire. It is said to be a powerful tool to bring back a lover. A red candle should be used with this statue. Black Santa Muerte statue – Used in rituals to protect yourself and to curse enemies, to protect against envy, evil eye or bad energy. To reverse curses, jinxes or hexes and send them back to the person that sent them. Many suggest that a black candle should be White Santa Muerte statue – Is used in rituals for spiritual cleansing, peace in the home, healing rituals, good luck, blessings and related works. A white candle should be placed in the altar. 7 Color Santa Muerte – This statue represents the full power of La Muerte it has the traditional red, black, and white colors plus the following – Gold for prosperity. Blue for professional advancement. Green for court cases and justice. Purple for spiritual cleansing and intuition. A 7 color candle is recommended. 2. – Once you have your statue make sure you keep fresh bread, water, sweets, flowers, tobacco, wine and incense. The types of incense recommended are listed below (you can alternate depending on the ritual you are performing). Copal – granular incense purifies energies and helps you have business success. Myrrh – granular incense is excellent for protection against envy and the evil eye. Rose – Granular or Stick Incense – Excellent for enhancing sexual passion. Jazmin – Use it in your office to call customers. Sandalwood – Great for prosperity and wealth in your home and business. 3. Quartz and Rocks represent a natural liaison between human consciousness and nature. Your altar should always include some of these quartz and rocks- Rose quartz, Clear quartz, Alumbre Rock, Magnets.
4. No spiritual ritual to the Santa Muerte is complete without a Herbal baths. The herbs favored by her include: Camphor, Basil, Rue, Rosemary or mint.
